Pies, Penny Wars and Canning

This Wednesday, during club rush, Penn State New Kensington THON made a strong push as we get closer to THON weekend.

THON set-up its club rush tables in New Kensington’s cafeteria and took pies in the face for two straight hours. Students and faculty paid one dollar to throw a pie at THON members and two dollars to get up close and personal for a can’t miss shot at someone’s face.

Admittedly, I missed my target on my first throw, so I went back, paid two more dollars and made sure I didn’t miss New Kensington THON chair Lauren Richards a second time.

THON also began Penn Wars this week.

Penny Wars is where each student organization can participate in trying to raise as much pennies for THON as possible in a milk carton. However, opposing clubs can also use nickels, dimes, quarters and bills to take down another club’s total.

For example, if SGA raises 550 pennies their total is 550. However, if other clubs put five nickels (25 points), 10 dimes (100 points) and three dollar bills (300 points) in SGA’s milk carton their total would be 125. If your club is participating make sure you’re collecting your loose pennies for your carton.

Lastly, this weekend New Kensington THON will be canning.

It looks like we picked the coldest and snowiest weekend to can.  We’ll be located outside at the Community Markets in Fox Chapel, Natrona Heights, Penn Hills and Lower Burrell. We’ll also be outside at the Shop 'n Save on Route 286 and the Natrona Heights Wal-Mart.

THON weekend countdown: 28 days, 22 hours, 16 minutes, 55 seconds.

  1. Not much here. Missing a comma after Wednesday. Short posts are OK, but always bring some perspective to your writing.
